Brief history and info about SFH
OTs and PTs, interested in Hand Rehabilitation, had for a long time discussed the necessity of having meetings of their own exchanging experience and promoting development within their field. After taking part for many years in the annual meetings for Swedish Hand Surgerons, the interest in starting an Assocation for Hand Rehabilitation grew stronger. On the 6th of December in 1990 the Swedish Association for Hand Rehabilitation was founded by the OTs and PTs at the Hand Surgery Departments in Sweden. The board consisted of Mona Larsson as chairman, Christina Flodmark as secretary, Anders Boström as treasurer, Anita Pihlström and Birgitta Rosén as members of the board and Kerstin Caine and Majvor Davidsson as deputies.
Today there are over 200 members, OTs, PTs and other professionals. SFH works both nationally as well as internationally and is a member of IFSHT (International Federation of Societies for Hand Therapy) and EFSHT (European Federation of Societies for Hand Therapy). A continuos exchange between the Scandinavian organizations takes place regularly. SFH also has 7 commercial members.
When the annual meeting is held, "Seminary Days" regarding Hand Rehabilitation are arranged. These Seminary Days consist of lectures and work shops, dealing with current questions regarding Hand Rehabiliation. Qualified lecturers are invited and members have the opportunity to present projects.
